Follow these instructions and a flat tire will never make you late again. Nor early. You’ll arrive precisely when you mean to.

I’ve just now realized that having had my license a bit more than six years and driving maybe 60,000 miles, I’ve never once had a flat tire. Weird.

It’s not really that weird, tires are a lot better than they used to be. I’ve been driving for two decades, and while I’ve had a few slow leaks, I’ve only had one “real” flat. Even that wasn’t actually a puncture, the tire was completely flat (and I don’t think it was like that when I started), but aired it back up and it had no problems for the following 11 months (at which point it got replaced along with the rest of my tires). It can happen, but it shouldn’t be a common occurrence .

Modern tires are pretty tough. I’ve been driving 18 years and average about 30,000 a year, and have only had to change a tire once (knock on wood). A few slow leaks that needed plugging, but only one actual blow out where it completely deflated.

I’m 44, I’ve had to change a tire on the road exactly once.

That’s reassuring. I see a lot of posts about flats and it makes me wonder if I’m an abnormality.
